Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to deepening defence cooperation with the United States following a high-level meeting with American officials in Accra.
According to a statement shared on Facebook, the Deputy Minister received a U.S. delegation on behalf of the Acting Minister of Defence, Cassiel Ato Forson, at the Ministry of Defence.
The delegation was led by Admiral George Wikoff, alongside the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Ghana, Rolf Olson.
Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening the Ghana–United States defence partnership, with particular emphasis on enhancing maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
Mr. Genfi also expressed Ghana’s appreciation to the United States for its continued support, including technical assistance in the investigation of a recent helicopter crash and logistical support in transporting Ghanaian troops to Jamaica for Operation Boafo.
He noted that the collaboration reflects the shared commitment of both countries to promoting security, stability, and international cooperation.
The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts to bolster bilateral defence relations and address emerging security challenges in the region.
