The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has officially announced the resumption of general releases for soldiers who have completed their authorised years of service, following a five-year suspension in line with Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain (GN) VA Arhin, the GAF explained that the suspension, which began five years ago, was in accordance with CI 129, which extended the service term of affected personnel by an additional five years.

Captain Arhin stated, “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to formally announce to the general public that it will resume general releases of soldiers who have completed their authorised years of service in accordance with GAF regulations.”

He noted that the first batch of personnel to be released will comprise members of the 1995 and 1996 year groups, who have either completed 30 years of meritorious service or reached the compulsory retirement age.

The release is set to commence in May 2025.

“With this resumption, the release of subsequent year groups will continue upon completion of their service,” Captain Arhin added.

The Armed Forces expressed deep appreciation for the service of the outgoing personnel. “GAF acknowledges and appreciates the sacrifices, professionalism and loyalty demonstrated by members of these year groups throughout their careers. Their commitment to duty, often under very challenging conditions, has been instrumental in safeguarding the sovereignty and stability of our beloved country,” the statement read.

Beyond national service, GAF also commended the international contributions of these soldiers. “These gallant men and women contributed immensely to global peace and security, enhancing our nation’s reputation in numerous United Nations and African Union peacekeeping missions,” it added.

The Chief of the Defence Staff, on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the retirees and their families.

“We thank them for their selfless and meritorious service to GAF in particular, and the country in general, and wish them the best in all their future endeavours,” he said.
