The cradle of music record labels and publishers in the country is back in the creative industry eco system.

Formed back over two decades, Ghana Association of Phonographic Industry is the epicenter of music production in Ghana.

The association had Dr Osei Kwame Despite the owner of Peace FM and Utv as it’s first chairman alongside music producer heavy weights like papcad and others as executive members

The association had been proactive in the passage of the copyright act 690, revision of the Ghana cultural policy and several engagement with the national development planning commission in the development of policy direction for the creative industries Members were equally proactive in the formation of Ghamro and pushed for the successful transition from COSGA as a quasi government collective management organisation to its current state.

It has not been rosy for the smooth running of the association for some time but thankfully some like minded members through the former General Secretary Francis Mensah Twum has come together to revitalise and rebuild the association

Mr Twum is not new in the creative INDUSTRY. As a certified copyright Advocate and music publisher he successfully run GAPI from its formative years and natured it to be the powerhouse of music business during his tenure as the General Secretary

A successful meeting that was conveyed at Adabraka in Accra was highly successful with most of the notable members present

Kwame Micky, Nayas, John Agbenu and many founding members were present

The euphoria was a scene to behold with joy, happiness and renewed vigor circulating in the air.

Mr Twum as the Convenor took members through the need for the meeting to discuss the essence of the gathering as the old board’s term of office had expired over two years now.

Conventions and constitutional requirements for the meeting was discussed leading to the formation of an INTERIM BOARD to run the association before an election to elect a substantive board to take over the administration of the association

The elected Board Members were Nana Kwame ASA Agiecoat as chairman, Enock Agyepong as General Secretary, Rebecca Bedu financial secretary and Mr Twum as the technical advisor.

Members tasked the team to hold a similar meeting for the northern sector for them to nominate other interim executives to assist them in running the association

Nana ASA popularly known as Agiecoat appealed for the support of the rank and file to work with the board for the successful discharge of their duties and also work with the old Executives for a successful tenure to elect a new board of trustees
