From today, Monday, April 7, 2025, thousands of Ghanaians in the Greater Accra Region who have waited months for their Ghana Cards can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as the National Identification Authority (NIA) begins issuing the printed backlog of cards across its district offices.
The move comes as part of the NIA’s effort to address delays in card issuance for individuals who applied for their Ghana Cards; whether for first-time registration, replacements, or updates since June 2023.
In a statement signed by the Acting Head of the Corporate Affairs Directorate, Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, the NIA assured residents that the cards will be issued at the same district offices where applicants initially registered.
The announcement also extends a call to Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who have not yet registered for the Ghana Card to visit any NIA office in Greater Accra to do so beginning today.
Importantly, the NIA reminded the public that both the issuance of printed backlog cards and first-time registration remain completely free of charge. Citizens are urged to report any NIA staff who request payment for these services.
However, services such as card replacement and updates to personal information will still attract a fee.
The NIA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to a Ghana Card, which has become a critical tool for identification and access to public services.
