The Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives (GCNM) has officially inaugurated its 3rd Rector, Dr. Gloria Achempim-Ansong, and inducted a new cohort of specialist residents in a ceremony themed “Nursing and Midwifery Specialization: A Tool for Improved Quality Care.”
The event, attended by key stakeholders in the health sector, underscored the importance of specialized training in enhancing healthcare delivery in Ghana.
Delivering the keynote address, the Minister for Health, Honorable Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, commended the outgoing Rector for a decade of transformative leadership that has significantly strengthened professional development, research, and capacity building within the College.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting healthcare excellence and pledged continued collaboration with GCNM to enhance training, research, and policy development.
Hon. Akandoh emphasized that the ongoing partnership between the government and GCNM would be instrumental in ensuring accessible, equitable, and high-quality healthcare for all Ghanaians.
He assured the newly appointed Rector of his full support in advancing the institution’s vision of developing a highly skilled and resilient healthcare workforce. Additionally, he urged the newly inducted specialist residents to uphold excellence in patient care and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s healthcare system.
Chairperson of the ceremony, Professor Mrs. Victoria Bam, Head of the Department of Public Health Nursing, highlighted the significance of the occasion. She noted that the induction marked the beginning of a new chapter for the specialist residents, who have undergone rigorous training to equip them with the expertise needed to drive improvements in healthcare delivery.
In her inaugural address, Dr. Gloria Achempim-Ansong expressed her profound gratitude and commitment to her new role as Rector. She outlined key strategic pillars to guide her tenure, including ensuring excellence in training and education, strengthening partnerships with healthcare institutions, and fostering research and innovation. She also appealed to the Minister of Health to support the College in securing a dedicated facility to enhance its operations.
The event was graced by notable personalities, including the Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Nursing at the University of Health and Allied Sciences, Regional Representatives of the College, President and Vice President of Nursing, Directors of Academics, and Faculty Chairs.
The induction of the new specialist residents is expected to bolster Ghana’s healthcare system by equipping professionals with specialized skills to contribute to national and global health objectives.
