The Government of Ghana has expressed strong condemnation over the ill-treatment of its citizens by Israeli authorities at the Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry described the actions as “provocative, humiliating, and completely unacceptable,” emphasizing that Ghanaian travellers have long enjoyed cordial relations with Israel.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Sunday, 7th December 2025, seven Ghanaian nationals travelling to Israel were deliberately targeted.

Four members of a Parliamentary delegation attending the ongoing Annual International Cybersecurity Conference were detained for over five hours before being released following strenuous diplomatic intervention.

The remaining three travellers were deported on the next available flight and have since returned to Ghana.

It noted, “Our embassy in Tel Aviv has always been responsive and compliant with international law. The alleged justification by Israeli authorities, claiming non-cooperation by our mission, is wholly untenable and does not reflect the facts.

The Ministry described the conduct of Israeli officials as inconsistent with the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries, which span over six decades and include considerable unimpeded travel by citizens of both nations.

“The deliberate targeting of Ghanaian nationals, including elected officials, is deeply troubling,” the statement added. “We are engaging with the Israeli Embassy in Accra this morning to register our displeasure in the strongest possible terms.”

Ghana’s government has further indicated that it is considering appropriate reciprocal measures in response to the treatment of its citizens, signaling a firm stance on protecting the dignity and rights of its nationals abroad.

“This incident undermines the trust and cooperation that have existed between Ghana and Israel for decades,” the Foreign Ministry stated. “We expect our citizens to be treated with respect and fairness at all times.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on all Ghanaian travellers to remain calm and assured the public that measures are being taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
