Just two days after the Ghana Health Service released a statement confirming two cases of Lassa fever in Accra, it has also indicated that twelve (12) new cases have been confirmed after tests conducted by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.
The additional 12 cases were confirmed after the GHS traced some 56 persons who came in contact with the initial two.
A statement released by the GHS and dated February 28, 2023, indicates that confirmed cases as of Tuesday stand at 14 with 13 of the cases being active and one person having been confirmed dead.
According to the statement, all 13 of the cases are alive and in stable conditions and being managed at designated health facilities.
The statement further added that a probable case has also been reported from the Central region and contacts are being monitored.
The Ghana Health Service has however advised the general public to practice proper personal and environmental hygiene.
