Ghana is a good boy in a bad neighborhood – Bryan Acheampong

Former Minister of State at the Ministry of Interior and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament, Mr. Bryan Acheampong, has said President Akufo-Addo is ensuring that Ghana is fully protected from issues of terrorism through diplomacy in the sub-region.

“Mr. Speaker on the second front of championing diplomacy, our president is ensuring that our state is fully protected from issues of terrorism through diplomacy with our neighbors”.

According to him, in the last one year, there have been about 700 terrorism incidents within the sub-region with 3,000 lives lost.

“Mr. Speaker, Ghana is seen as a good boy in a bad neighborhood, we know what is happening in Mali, Burkina-Faso, Nigeria and to the West Cote d’voire, we position ourselves to play a role that helps our neighbors secure themselves most importantly help us protect our sovereignty and protect our human security”.- He said

Contributing to the debate on the 2022 budget statement on foreign affairs, the MP for Abetifi, Mr. Bryan Acheampong said government, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking the issues of terrorism seriously by establishing the early warning centre in the country to protect Ghanaians and members of the sub-region adding that president Akufo-Addo signed the early warning mechanism system bill to allow for West African States share information on human security agreement which was later passed by parliament.

“Mr. Speaker we came to this house in our last sitting and passed a bill that set up the early warning centre in this country and that is how serious this government, led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking the issue of terrorism to protect Ghanaians and members of the ECOWAS sub-region”.-He added
