The Government of Ghana has issued an appeal for restraint and diplomatic efforts amidst escalating hostilities across the Middle East.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement cautioned that heightened tensions could have severe repercussions for civilian populations and regional stability.
It expressed profound concern regarding ongoing coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran, as well as reported retaliatory actions by Iran targeting U.S. and Israeli assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, which have resulted in airspace closures, disrupted flights, and elevated security alerts throughout the region.
The Ministry urged all parties involved to de-escalate tensions and resume diplomatic engagement, emphasizing the imperative to protect lives, ensure economic stability, and secure lasting peace.
Furthermore, it advised Ghanaian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to the Middle East, while citizens residing in affected countries were advised to remain indoors where possible, comply with local authority directives, avoid large gatherings, monitor official communications, and maintain contact with the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic mission.
Meanwhile, an emergency preparedness plan has been activated, with Ghana initiating evacuation procedures for staff from its embassy in Tehran, while retaining essential personnel to assist nationals still in Iran.
Diplomatic missions across the region remain on high alert to provide consular support to Ghanaians in need.
