Ghana has officially become a founding member of the International Organization for Mediation (IOMed), reaffirming its commitment to peaceful dispute resolution and multilateral cooperation.

The development was announced by Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, who said he signed the IOMed Convention in Beijing on behalf of the Government of Ghana.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the ambassador described the move as a significant step in Ghana’s engagement with international mechanisms that promote dialogue and non-adversarial settlement of disputes.

“The signing reaffirms Ghana’s commitment to peaceful dispute resolution and global cooperation,” Mr. Bonsu said.

The International Organization for Mediation is aimed at promoting mediation as a preferred means of resolving international disputes, complementing existing judicial and arbitration frameworks. As a founding member, Ghana will participate in shaping the institution’s governance structures, operational framework, and strategic direction.

Ghana has long projected itself as a champion of diplomacy, peacebuilding, and multilateralism, particularly within Africa and the wider international community.

Analysts say Ghana’s decision to join IOMed aligns with its foreign policy objectives of strengthening international cooperation and contributing to global peace and stability.

Further details on Ghana’s role within the organization and the ratification process of the Convention are expected to be communicated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in due course.
