The Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C., has held a solemn memorial service in honour of the late Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed; and six other officials who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
The service, which brought together mourners from across the region, was attended by a delegation of Ghanaian clergy based in Maryland, along with other dignitaries and members of the Ghanaian community.
The event served as a time for reflection on the lives, service, and contributions of the deceased to Ghana’s national development.
In her remarks, Acting Head of Mission, H.E Jane Gasu Aheto, expressed deep appreciation to the ambassadors and members of the Ghanaian community who signed the Book of Condolence.
He affirmed that Ghanaians would continue to press forward for God and country despite the tragedy.
Head of Delegation of Clergyman and Women, Bishop Evans Glover paid a moving tribute to the fallen heroes, urging Ghanaians to hold fast to their faith in God.
He assured attendees that God would restore the nation and not forsake her.
In His mercy, he said, “God would gather, comfort, protect, and keep His people so that such a tragedy would not befall the nation again.”
The clergy also remembered the accident at Juaso that killed 16 members of the Saviour Church Youth, offering prayers for their grieving families.
The memorial service was a heartfelt occasion to honour the fallen heroes for their selfless service, to recognise their impact in public office, and to provide space for the Ghanaian diaspora and friends abroad to mourn their loss.
