On Monday, December 25, 2023, at about 8pm, the Ada Foah detachment of the Ghana Navy Riverine Command’s intelligence-led operation was conducted to prevent the possible movement of the substances from its source on land.

According to a statement released by the Ghana Armed Forces, the suspected narcotics were being loaded at a dilapidated warehouse at the Ghana Highways Authority premises in Ada along the banks of the Volta Lake.

“The team proceeded to the location and arrested the 6 suspects believed to be involved. A total number of 81 sacks suspected to be containing marijuana were confiscated”, the statement said.

Upon arriving at the location and arresting the suspects, GAF with the help of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the Ghana Police Service, the suspects and confiscated items were transported to the NACOC Headquarters in Accra for further investigation.

The Ghana Navy further assured the general public of its unwavering commitment to preventing illegal narcotics trade in Ghana’s maritime domain that has a direct impact on national security and urged individuals to volunteer information that will aid the success of military and joint security operations on the Volta Lake and other parts of the country.
