The Ghana Nurse-Midwife Trainees’ Association has appealed to government and other stakeholders to enhance security measures at the Bawku Presbyterian Nursing and Midwifery Training College in response to an armed attack on approximately 50 students on January 19, 2024.
In a statement released by the association, these students were attacked by armed gunmen on their way home after vacation around the Binduri area in Bawku.
The association emphasized that, the incident has instilled fear among the students thus, measures need to be taken as soon as possible to find to ways to ensure a safer future for Trainee Nurses and Midwife in not only the Bawku area but across Ghana.
“We implore the government to provide enhanced security measures, including increased police presence and regular patrols in vulnerable areas. Furthermore, we appeal to the local authorities, traditional area, and the the chief to consider the future of these young scholars and acknowledge the dire need for peace and security in their educational journey”, a release stated.
