Ghana Post has been officially designated as the courier service provider for the country’s newly introduced chip-embedded passports.
The announcement was made at the official launch of the new biometric passport system, held at the Passport Office headquarters in Accra.
The event was attended by Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP), and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The new passports, embedded with security chips, meet international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), offering enhanced protection against fraud and identity theft.
Ghana Post, a state agency under the Ministry of Communications, will be responsible for delivering the new passports to applicants within 15 days. For citizens without fixed home addresses, the documents will be available for collection at the nearest Ghana Post office.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Samuel Nartey George said the partnership marks a major step toward modernising public service delivery. “Ghana Post’s involvement ensures a more secure and efficient process. With their logistics expertise, they can track each delivery, prevent losses, and provide real-time updates to applicants when needed,” he stated.
He added that the initiative is about more than just convenience — it’s about trust and service. “This partnership will enhance the overall passport application experience, ensuring that every citizen receives their documents safely and on time.”
The move is expected to improve public confidence in passport issuance while streamlining the process for applicants across the country.
