Energy Minister, Dr. John Jinapor addresses participants at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit in London.

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has announced that Ghana has secured more than US$3.5 billion in upstream oil and gas investment commitments, signaling renewed investor confidence and a strong recovery in the country’s energy sector.

Speaking at the Ghana-UK Investment Summit 2026, Dr. Jinapor highlighted the impact of the Government’s Reset Agenda, describing it as a key driver in restoring investor trust and revitalizing the energy industry.

According to the Minister, the government inherited significant challenges upon assuming office in 2025, including a power deficit, declining oil production, and weakened investor confidence. However, he noted that decisive policy reforms and sustained engagement with investors have helped reverse the situation.

“Ghana’s energy sector is now experiencing renewed growth and stability,” Dr. Jinapor stated. “We have secured over US$3.5 billion in upstream oil and gas investment commitments, resumed major drilling activities, and expect crude oil production to increase for the first time in nearly six years.”

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a secure, affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy system. He explained that through the National Energy Policy and the Energy Transition Framework, Ghana is pursuing a balanced strategy that maximizes domestic oil and gas resources while accelerating renewable energy development and advancing plans for nuclear power generation.

Dr. Jinapor also outlined key investment opportunities available to local and international investors, particularly in gas infrastructure, gas-to-power projects, renewable energy, power sector modernization, and upstream petroleum development.

He described these areas as critical components of Ghana’s ambition to become a regional energy hub and drive industrial transformation across the country.

Concluding his address, the Minister invited global investors to partner with Ghana, emphasizing that the country offers a stable policy environment, ongoing reforms, and a strong commitment to private-sector-led growth.

“With restored confidence, a conducive investment climate, and a clear vision for the future, Ghana is open for business and ready to deliver long-term value and shared prosperity,” he said.
