The Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Jinapor, has hinted that to meet the country’s energy demand, his entity will prioritize renewable energy sources.
He revealed the plan while addressing participants on “Delivering Affordable, Accessible and Sustainable Energy Solutions for Africa” at the ongoing Africa Prosperity Dialogue on Friday, January 31, 202.
“To meet the energy needs of our growing economy and ensure sustainable development, Ghana is prioritizing solar, wind, and mini-hydro projects as part of our broader energy transition plan,” Jinapor stated.
The Yapei Kusawgu legislator emphasized that Ghana is considering renewable energy sources to diversify energy since it has solely depended on non-renewable energy.
Mr. Jinapor added that, especially in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), using renewable energy was essential to lowering the nation’s carbon footprint, enhancing energy availability, and fostering industrialisation.
The sector minister, however, charged African leaders to invest, interconnect and integrate to achieve a sustainable and reliable energy future as a continent at large.
“In order to achieve a sustainable energy future, Africa must work together. It is only through collaboration that we can unlock the continent’s full potential, overcome the energy crisis, and drive inclusive development,” he added.
