The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has revealed that Ghana will establish a new consulate in Singapore in 2026.

He explained that the decision follows President John Dramani Mahama’s recent state visit to the Asian country and is intended to deepen bilateral engagement while creating a permanent diplomatic presence.

Delivering his remarks at the Conference of Heads of Missions and Orientation Programme for newly appointed envoys in Accra on Monday, September 1, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa disclosed that further consulates will also be set up in Dublin, Ireland, and Massachusetts, USA.

He highlighted that the Massachusetts mission is in response to strong appeals from the Ghanaian community in the United States, noting that the current facilities in New York and Washington are overstretched and unable to cater adequately to the diaspora across all 50 states.

Mr. Ablakwa also revealed that a consulate will be opened in Lisbon, Portugal, to advance commercial cooperation and accommodate the growing traffic of direct flights between Ghana and Portugal.

This, he emphasized, forms part of the government’s agenda to strengthen strategic partnerships across diverse regions.

Currently, Ghana operates 13 high commissions, 48 embassies, and 14 consulates worldwide.
