Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has disclosed that Ghana’s embassy in Iran will resume full operations on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, following a three-month shutdown.

The mission was temporarily closed earlier this year after security concerns in Tehran prompted the government to recall its staff.

Officials at the time cited the need to safeguard diplomats and reassess security protocols at the facility.

Speaking at the government’s regular accountability series in Accra on Monday, September 15, Mr. Ablakwa confirmed that the necessary precautions had now been taken, clearing the way for a reopening.

“I can announce that after three months of closure of our embassy in Iran, we shall fully reopen tomorrow, the 16th of September 2025. Measures have been put in place to guarantee the safety of our diplomatic staff,” the Minister said.

The reopening is expected to restore consular services for Ghanaians living in Iran and strengthen bilateral engagements between the two countries.

Diplomats who had been temporarily reassigned during the closure will return to post under the new arrangements.
