The Ministry of Health has stated that the low rate of vaccination in Ghana would trigger the ministry to call for mandatory vaccination.
According to the sector minister has the power through the Public Health Act to call for mandatory vaccination.
Speaking with Citi News, the Chief Director of the Ministry, Kwabena Boadu Oku Afari said, the ministry has the power to do that through the executive instrument and that will have the legal backing and when that happens, it can be rolled out throughout the country.
In the latest statistics of the ministry, only 2.8 million Ghanaians are fully vaccinated, while 6.6 million people have received at least a dose.
The detection of the omicron variant has increased Ghana’s active cases recorded to 13,567 as of today, January 6, 2022.
Because of the high rate of active cases recorded every day, the government has shifted the target to vaccinate 20 million Ghanaians in 2021, to the first quarter of 2022.
