The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in partnership with FIFA and the German Development  Cooperation (GIZ), is set to embark on the Girls4Goals project, a transformative 9-month project aimed at empowering girls across the Volta Region.

The Girls4Goals initiative marks a bold step in promoting gender equality through sports in Ghana.  By fostering leadership skills, building resilience, and increasing participation in sports, Girls4goals will focus on mixed football particularly, a sport traditionally dominated by men. By leveraging the power of sports, Girls4Goals aims to shift mindsets, break barriers, and create equal opportunities for girls and boys alike.

At the helm of this initiative is a five-member steering committee, led by Ama Brobey-Williams, the GFA’s Deputy General Secretary and the Project Lead. She is supported by an esteemed group of professionals, namely Malcolm Appeadu Frazier – Head of the GFA Foundation, Marian Mensah – Head of Legal, GFA, Winifred Mawudeku – Director of GSCE, GFA and Collins Dei, Chief Finance Officer, GFA.

Also providing expert guidance is Vera Addo, a consultant with deep expertise in gender equality and project management, who will be supporting the team to ensure the initiative’s strategic direction aligns with its empowering goals.

On Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, the importance of the Girls4Goals initiative was underscored by the visit of Martin Braud, a representative from La Guilde, one of the project’s key international partners.

During his visit to the offices of the GFA, Braud expressed his admiration for the initiative’s mission, highlighting its potential to not only empower girls but also transform communities.

Lasting Impact

Through collaborative efforts with local schools, traditional authorities, and community leaders, the Girls4Goals project is set to create lasting change, ensuring that girls in the Volta Region can thrive both on and off the field.

With the backing of influential global organizations, a dedicated steering committee, and the involvement of key partners like La Guilde, this initiative will inspire a new generation of leaders particularly young girls’ who will challenge the status quo and redefine gender roles through the power of sports.
