The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has cautioned the general public against engaging with fraudulent social media accounts, particularly on Facebook, that are impersonating the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu.
In an official statement signed by M. Amoako-Atta, APR, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration and Head of Public Affairs, the Service noted that it had become aware of several fake accounts using the image and identity of the Comptroller-General to deceive unsuspecting individuals online.
“The attention of the Ghana Immigration Service has been drawn to fraudulent social media accounts, especially on Facebook, falsely impersonating the Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu,” the release stated.
The Service made it clear that Mr. Amadu has no affiliation with any such social media presence.
“We wish to state unequivocally that the Comptroller-General of Immigration does not own or operate any Facebook account, and the public is strongly advised not to engage with them,” it added.
The GIS warned that any individual who interacts with these fake platforms does so at their own risk.
“The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. Samuel Basintale Amadu, completely disassociates himself from any such accounts,” the statement emphasized.
The public is therefore urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity or accounts to the appropriate authorities for immediate action.
