The Majority Caucus who are asking President Akufo-Addo to sack the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta were not present at a meeting held on October 25 at the Jubilee house.
Over eighty [80] New Patriotic Party’s Members of Parliament called on the President to also sack the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Dr Charles Adu Boahen.
According to them, this is due to the current state of the country’s economy and measures the Majority in Parliament are taking to win successive elections and not only “break the 8”.
They also noted that failure to sack the two Ministers would make them not participate in any government business and budget hearing.
However, the Majority Caucus in Parliament who called on the president to sack the above-mentioned ministers did not show up for the meeting at the Presidency.
The president during the meeting with the Majority front, led by the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu begged them to give him three more weeks to decide the fate of the Finance Minister.
The president’s reason for asking for more time from the Majority is that the Finance Minister is currently leading the IMF negotiations so once the deal is through, he (President) will find a solution to issues surrounding the Finance Minister.
Response from National Executives
Meanwhile, the national executives of the New Patriotic Party are calling for calm from the majority in parliament as they seek to engage stakeholders, parliamentary groups and government to find solutions to the matter.
In a press release, “the leadership of the party, herein, reiterates its commitment to at all times engage government on issues of utmost interest and concern of the party, government and the citizenry.”
President Akufo-Addo will be meeting with cabinet members starting today to Saturday to discuss the current situation of the country and the way forward
He will also meet some identifiable groups like market women group, GUTA, GPRTU, GJA, and others to find solutions to the economic woes.
