The Special Prosecutor, Mr Kissi Agyabeng must be allowed and given the freedom to operate and fight corruption, a leading communications team member of the governing New Patriotic Party, Francis Anom (Fransoa) has said.

Speaking in an interview with Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic Fm, Friday, August 26, Fransoa stated that there must be no need for individuals to contest SP’s decision to begin investigations from 2016.

According to the NPP panellist, the Attorney General who is an appointee of the government can also decide to pick up cases from 2000 to complement the work of the SP, who has begun investigations from 2016 cases upwards.

“The Attorney General is the appointee of our government. If the Special Prosecutor has decided to begin an investigation from 2016, the Attorney General can also pick up cases from 2000.  I don’t understand the hullabaloo around and the talks which has caused even some persons within the NPP {Krobea Asante and one other person} to petition the SP. Of course, they have the right to petition but to me, I think that, as a political party and as a government, we can do more and allow the Special Prosecutor to do what he wants to do with his powers.

I want the NDC to take note of all the happenings of the SP’s work because if you look at what the Special Prosecutor is doing, it’s around the government and appointees of people around Akufo-Addo, and we don’t want to hear the NDC say he’s witch-hunting when he scolds and charges any NDC member in a corruption scandal for court proceedings“,

According to Mr Fransoa, the duties of the Special Prosecutor must cut across all political strides.

However, he declined the fact that Politicians have always been at the forefront of stealing from the state. He said the main culprits of stealing from the state are civil servants and technocrats.

“I want it to cut across all political divides. People usually blame the politicians for stealing from the state but the real people draining the state are the civil servants and the technocrats but we sit here and blame (NDC and NPP). Instead of sitting down to fix the problems, we sit here and blame ourselves. If a contractor is not able to build a road well, would Amoako Atta be able to know the quality of the road? So we must deal with the technocrats and the civil servants“, he affirmed.

Fransoa further shot down the Customs boss Col. Damoah rtd’s comments that the SP is a small boy and will not be allowed to dent his image.

He charges the SP to stay firm and make sure that he does not play favoritism with his mandate given him and deal with the corruption cases severely.

He also called on the government to provide him with enough security because that’s what will give him the confidence to carry out his duties as threats are bound to be made to him.

“I wish him well. The only thing is that the state should protect him enough. I know that he has enough security because when he appears, you see a lot of soldiers around him and even in his home and all of that, and this is what will give him the confidence to exercise his power. If we lose his security, then we are putting his life at risk, and he is a human just like us, and once he realizes his security is at stake, he may lose confidence“, he stated.
