A fire incident at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Bulk Supply Tent near Roman Ridge, close to the Obasanjo Highway, was swiftly contained by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Sunday morning, averting what could have been a major power infrastructure disaster.
An emergency call was placed to Fire Service at exactly 11:11 a.m., and within two minutes, a team of firefighters from the Abelemkpe Fire Station, led by ADO II Arhin Daniel, arrived at the scene.
Fire personnel quickly moved into action, managing to bring the blaze under control by 11:22 a.m. and fully extinguishing it six minutes later at 11:28 a.m.
The fire, believed to have originated from an electrical fault, damaged an earthing transformer and extended to an external air conditioning unit. While no casualties were reported, parts of Accra have experienced power outages as a result of the incident.
Prompt and tactical efforts by the GNFS helped protect critical components of the supply station, including a second transformer, the main tent housing, and nearby substation equipment.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, as investigations are currently underway. Officials from the GNFS have commended the rapid coordination that ensured public safety and minimized infrastructural damage.
