The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully contained two (2) separate fire incidents in Accra on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, recording no casualties due to swift and coordinated responses.
The first incident was an early-morning institutional fire at Merton Montessori School, opposite the Osu Cemetery. The fire was reported at 0602 hours, with firefighters from the Ministries Fire Station arriving at the scene at 0609 hours. The fire was brought under control at 0623 hours and fully extinguished at 0650 hours, limiting damage to furniture, stationery, and air-conditioning units.
The second incident involved an advanced domestic fire at Zaabu Zongo, Abossey Okai. The fire was reported at 1128 hours, and firefighters from the Industrial Area Fire Station arrived at 1139 hours. With support from the Dansoman and Accra City Fire Stations, the blaze was brought under control at 1214 hours and completely extinguished at 1309 hours. Eleven (11) single rooms were destroyed, but several adjoining houses were successfully salvaged from total fire ruins.
The causes of both fires are under investigation, underscoring GNFS’s commitment to rapid response, professionalism, and the protection of lives and property.
