A total of 35 passengers were rescued in two separate road crashes at Adansi Dompoase and Adansi Hweremoase on Sunday, April 6, 2025, by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) stationed at Fomena.

The first incident occurred around 11:55 a.m. at Dompoase, where a Benz Sprinter minibus with registration number AW 9005-12 veered off the road after suffering a shaft failure and a tire burst.

The vehicle crashed into a building at the base of a hill, leaving several passengers injured. The GNFS rescue team, led by STNO II Abdulai, arrived at 12:00 p.m. and rescued 22 injured passengers. All victims were transported to the Fomena Government Hospital for medical treatment.

Later that night at 10:16 p.m., a Toyota Hiace minibus (GX 6776-21) collided with a stationary trailer (GT 2608-17) at Hweremoase. The Fomena Fire Station team responded promptly at 10:28 p.m., working to free a passenger trapped in the front seat and ensuring all 13 passengers received emergency care. They were also sent to the Fomena Government Hospital.

Both accidents caused significant damage to the front portions of the Sprinter and Hiace, with partial damage to the trailer’s rear.

Despite the long hours and back-to-back emergencies, the GNFS team maintained a high level of professionalism and efficiency. Their quick response is being praised by local officials and residents alike.

“We commend the Fomena crew for their dedication and life-saving efforts under pressure,” a GNFS official said.
