The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced a renewed and intensified crackdown on facilities that fail to comply with fire safety regulations.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sarpong, Director of Fire Safety, has emphasized that the service will strictly enforce fire safety laws, including prosecuting offenders who endanger lives and property.
Speaking in an interview, DCFO Ntow-Sarpong highlighted that non-compliance with fire safety regulations has been a longstanding issue, but the GNFS is now taking decisive action.
“From this week, we are going to be very aggressive. If you are caught violating fire safety regulations, then that is your own cup of tea because we will deal with you accordingly,” she warned.
She further noted that many individuals and institutions fail to take fire safety seriously, but the GNFS is committed to ensuring strict adherence to regulations to prevent fire outbreaks and safeguard lives and property.
In addition to enforcement, DCFO Ntow-Sarpong acknowledged the logistical constraints faced by the GNFS, particularly regarding outdated firefighting equipment.
“We have been working with old equipment for the past 10 years, but the government has assured us of new supplies. While we await these, we are doing our best with the little we have,” she stated.
She assured the public that efforts are underway to secure new firefighting equipment and logistical support to enhance the service’s operations.
As fire incidents continue to rise, the GNFS is urging all businesses, institutions, and individuals to comply with fire safety regulations.
The Service has vowed to intensify inspections and take legal action against those who fail to meet safety standards, reinforcing its commitment to building a fire-resilient nation.
