The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has clarified that no fees are required for the issuance of attestation letters related to fire and emergency incidents, following reports of alleged extortion at the Accra City Fire Station.
In a press release signed by Divisional Officer Two (DO II) Desmond E. Ackah, Head of Public Relations, the GNFS assured the public, particularly victims of the recent Kantamanto fire, that the practice of demanding payment for these letters is unauthorized.
“The GNFS categorically states that this practice is unauthorized, and the public is strongly advised not to pay any fees for requesting attestation letters,” the statement read.
The Service emphasized that it is taking the reports seriously and has launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
Any officer found to be involved in this malpractice will face disciplinary action in line with the GNFS’s code of conduct.
The GNFS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining integrity and professionalism in serving the public.
Victims and members of the public with information on the issue are encouraged to report to the GNFS Greater Accra Headquarters in Korle-Bu or contact the Public Relations Department at 050 960 8744 for further action.
The statement concluded with an appeal for public cooperation and understanding as the GNFS works to uphold accountability and ensure high standards of service delivery.
The GNFS reassures all affected victims that they will continue to provide the necessary support without any unauthorized fees.
