The Member of Parliament for Ada constituency, Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghansah, has criticized those calling for a ban on mining in Ghana, labeling them hypocrites. She argued that God put gold on the land for Ghanaians, and it’s not feasible for Him to send money from heaven instead.
According to the MP, what Ghana truly needs is a modification of mining practices to ensure the extraction of gold without destroying the land, forest, and water bodies. She emphasized that mining is a vital part of Ghana’s economy and has been a significant contributor to the country’s development.
Cudjoe-Ghansah called on mining experts to share their knowledge and teach miners proper mining techniques. She stressed that with the right approaches and technologies, Ghana can harness its mineral resources without compromising the environment.
The MP acknowledged concerns about the environmental impact of mining, but emphasized that a blanket ban is not the solution. She advocated for a balanced approach that allows for responsible mining practices, benefiting both the economy and the environment.
