Gold Fields settles ¢2.9bn in statutories in first half of 2026

Gold Fields Ghana paid more than GH¢2.9 billion to the Government of Ghana in taxes, royalties, dividends and other statutory obligations during the first half of 2026, highlighting the mining company’s contribution to national revenue and economic activity.

The payments, covering January to June 2026, included GH¢1.44 billion in corporate taxes, which accounted for the largest share of the company’s direct contribution to government revenue.

Gold Fields also paid GH¢611.8 million in royalties and GH¢375.1 million in dividends to the government.

Other statutory payments included GH¢205.9 million in Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) taxes, GH¢146.4 million in withholding tax and GH¢133.4 million in withholding VAT.

The figures demonstrate the various channels through which the company’s mining operations contribute to public revenue, ranging from corporate taxation and mineral royalties to employment-related and indirect taxes.

Gold Fields said the payments reflected its commitment to creating value from its operations and contributing to Ghana’s socio-economic development.

Local Procurement Reaches GH¢4.7bn

Beyond its direct payments to government, Gold Fields reported significant expenditure on goods and services within Ghana, supporting local businesses and suppliers connected to its operations.

The company recorded GH¢4.7 billion in in-country procurement during the period, reflecting the value of goods and services sourced locally.

Of that amount, GH¢4.2 billion was spent on procurement from host communities, with 124 host-community suppliers participating in the company’s supply chain.

The local procurement expenditure provides business opportunities for contractors and suppliers while helping retain a significant portion of the company’s operational spending within the Ghanaian economy.

Gold Fields also reported that 70 per cent of employment in its host communities was sourced locally, providing employment and income opportunities for people living around its operational areas.

Gold Fields further reported GH¢39 million in socio-economic development expenditure during the period as part of efforts to support communities around its operations.

The investment forms part of the company’s broader approach to ensuring that communities benefit from mining activities beyond employment and government revenue.

Gold Fields said sustainability, community development and responsible environmental practices remained important components of its operations.

The company said it continued to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles into its business strategy as part of efforts to create long-term value for its stakeholders and host communities.

Taken together, the government payments, local procurement, employment and community investments demonstrate the wider economic linkages generated by the company’s operations.

While the more than GH¢2.9 billion paid to government represents its direct fiscal contribution during the first six months of 2026, billions of cedis in local procurement also supported businesses participating in the mining supply chain.

Gold Fields said it remained committed to strengthening local economic participation and ensuring that its operations continued to contribute to Ghana’s development.
