A tragic incident occurred in Gomoa Nyanyano, a community in the Gomoa East District of the Central region, where a three-year-old child was electrocuted after a funeral ceremony.
According to reports, the child came into contact with a live electrical cable that had been used to connect power from a house meter to a public address system during the funeral on Sunday.
Eyewitnesses say that after the funeral, the electrician disconnected the cable from the sound system but left it on the ground, still attached to the meter. Some accounts suggest that the cables were initially secured on a wooden structure but were later brought down by stray dogs.
Tragically, the young victim was found unresponsive, clutching the exposed wires. Witnesses immediately rushed the child to Mother and Child Hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Local authorities have yet to comment on the tragedy, and it remains unclear if any investigations will be launched into the matter.
