With the 2028 general elections gradually approaching, the internal dynamics of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are drawing national attention. In a bold move, the Good Governance Promoters of Ghana (GGP–GH) has issued a strong caution to the party urging unity and advocating for a clear choice of leadership.

According to the group, the NPP risks self-destruction if internal conflicts are not addressed swiftly and strategically.

In a detailed press release dated August 3, 2025, the civic group didn’t hold back. They expressed concern over what they describe as “simmering tensions and growing factionalism” within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), warning the party against internal conflict that could jeopardize its 2028 chances.

According to the group, after conducting months of internal research, public engagement, and policy assessment, they are fully convinced that Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong is the “most credible and capable figure to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and beyond.

GOOD GOVERNANCE PROMOTERS OF GHANA (GGP–GH)

PRESS RELEASE

Date: 3rd August, 2025

The Good Governance Promoters of Ghana (GGP–GH) has observed with deep concern the simmering tensions and growing factionalism within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as it gears up for its internal leadership race ahead of the 2028 general elections.

As a non-partisan civic body committed to the ideals of good governance, national cohesion, and democratic development, GGP–GH finds it necessary to advise the NPP to tread carefully and to consolidate around a unifying and visionary leader.

After months of internal research, public engagement, and policy assessment, GGP–GH is of the firm conviction that Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, is the most credible and capable figure to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and beyond.

WHY DR. BRYAN ACHEAMPONG IS THE RIGHT CHOICE

Leadership Rooted in Action and Sacrifice

Dr. Bryan Acheampong has consistently proven himself as a leader who acts, not merely talks. One of the most notable and commendable displays of his loyalty to the party was when he personally stepped in to raise a bail surety of nearly 50 Million Ghana Cedis (GH₵50,000,000) with two justified surerities for Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (popularly known as Chairman Wontumi). This act, done during a tense political moment, not only saved a critical regional leader from prolonged legal distress but also stabilized the party’s leadership in its most influential stronghold.

This bold gesture reflects Dr. Acheampong’s unwavering loyalty, solidarity, and readiness to protect the NPP’s image and integrity, even at great personal and financial cost.

Parliamentary and Ministerial Excellence

As a three-term MP for Abetifi, Dr. Acheampong has brought infrastructural transformation, health services, educational facilities, and employment opportunities to his constituency. His record is visible and measurable.

In his capacity as Minister of Food and Agriculture, he played a central role in maintaining national food security during turbulent global periods—implementing strategies that protected the country’s agricultural base, empowered local farmers, and kept food inflation under relative control compared to neighboring nations.

Since 2016, Dr. Acheampong has been involved in various constituency-level development initiatives across sectors.

Health:

He has supported National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration for over 28,000 residents. Projects in the health sector have included the construction and renovation of CHPS compounds, the development of a medical diagnostic imaging center, and the creation of a youth-friendly health center.

Education:

He has contributed to building and rehabilitating school infrastructure, including ICT labs and classroom blocks. Initiatives such as teacher support programs and the provision of scholarships have also been launched. Over 24,000 school uniforms and 16,500 exercise books have reportedly been distributed, along with investments in vocational education and early childhood learning.

Water and Sanitation:

Acheampong’s initiatives include the drilling and rehabilitation of boreholes, installation of water systems, and construction of bio-digester toilets. These efforts aimed to improve access to potable water and sanitation for communities within the constituency.

Agriculture:

His constituency-level support for agriculture includes distributing cocoa seedlings and farm inputs, and initiating land rehabilitation projects using tree crops like cashew and coconut.

Roads and Infrastructure:

He has facilitated the surfacing of key roads and the development of feeder roads linking various towns and villages. These roadworks have aimed to improve mobility and access to services.

Governance:

Acheampong has supported the construction of community durbar grounds and is overseeing the development of a new multi-purpose district assembly complex intended to improve local governance operations.

Bryan Acheampong has received several recognitions for his work in public service, education, and community development:

In 2024, he was awarded the Order of the Volta (Member Division) by the Government of Ghana in recognition of his contributions to national development, particularly in the areas of agriculture and governance.

In 2021, the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) acknowledged his support for the education sector, citing his provision of scholarships to teachers in the Kwahu East District as part of efforts to improve access to professional development opportunities.

In 2020, Kasapreko Company Limited commended him for his role in supporting Ghana’s national response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including resource mobilization and community relief initiatives.

A Comparative Edge Over Dr. Bawumia

While Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia brings academic and economic credentials to the table, his tenure as Head of the Economic Management Team has come under scrutiny due to Ghana’s recent economic challenges, currency depreciation, and debt pressures. The digitalization agenda, although innovative, has yet to substantially uplift the average Ghanaian from hardship.

In contrast, Dr. Acheampong has combined military intelligence, business leadership, and effective political stewardship—bringing to bear real-world solutions in both policy and politics. His efforts resonate more powerfully with the party grassroots, traditional leaders, and floating voters who seek honesty and results.

Unifier with Proven Loyalty and Deep Party Roots

Dr. Acheampong is a known bridge-builder across all levels of the party. He has never wavered in his allegiance. From financing party operations, mentoring youth, mediating internal disputes, to standing up for fellow leaders, he exemplifies selfless service. His interventions are often quiet but impactful.

The Wontumi bail support is just one example of many behind-the-scenes contributions he has made to sustain the NPP’s internal peace and public credibility.

CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATION

The Good Governance Promoters of Ghana (GGP–GH) hereby cautions the NPP to avoid the pitfalls of internal division and to remain focused on selecting a flag bearer who brings unity, credibility, and electability.

Based on concrete evidence and patriotic performance, Dr. Bryan Acheampong stands out as the best-fit leader for 2028—a man of action, humility, and national vision.

We therefore call on delegates, regional executives, and national leadership to rally behind Dr. Bryan Acheampong, not out of sentiment, but out of strategy—for the continued strength of the party and the prosperity of the Republic of Ghana.
