The accident took place between the Akuse Junction and the VRA Junction on the morning of Saturday. While specific details on how the collision occurred remain unclear, the vehicle involved was identified as a Toyota Corolla sedan with the registration number GS 4817-17.

The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of the two female officers. The two male prison officers who were also occupants of the vehicle sustained multiple fractures and severe injuries.

The injured male officers were initially rushed to the Akuse Government Hospital for emergency stabilization. However, due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently referred to the better-equipped St. Joseph Hospital in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, for specialized medical treatment.

This dual tragedy—the loss of life and the critical condition of the injured—has had a profound emotional impact on their colleagues.

Citi News sources indicate that the devastating news has plunged personnel at the Akuse Local Prison in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality into deep shock and grief.

While colleagues mourn the two officers who lost their lives, many are also praying for the recovery of those still receiving treatment in Koforidua.

The Akuse District Police Command confirmed the launch of a formal investigation into the fatal road traffic incident. The investigation will focus on gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and examining the vehicle to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the crash.

The tragic incident underscores the risks faced by uniformed personnel in the line of duty, both during official assignments and in transit. The Akuse Local Prison, situated in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, is a key correctional facility in the Eastern Region, and the loss of personnel represents a significant blow to the close-knit security community.
