The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), has settled arrears owed to caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) for the third term of the 2023/2024 academic year.
The payment, which covered 61 cooking days, was completed in the last week of December 2024, according to a statement issued by the GSFP Secretariat.
This development follows months of advocacy by caterers seeking the release of funds to sustain the programme.
In addition to settling the arrears, the GSFP, in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department, is working to secure funds for the first term of the 2024/2025 academic year.
Meanwhile, the government has directed all caterers under the GSFP to resume providing meals to beneficiary schools starting Wednesday, January 8, 2025, in line with the Ghana Education Service’s academic calendar.
The GSFP Secretariat reassured caterers with outstanding payment issues from 2019 onwards that steps are being taken to resolve their concerns.
“The GSFP wishes all caterers and beneficiary pupils a Happy and Prosperous New Year,” the statement concluded.
