The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, has announced that it will, from June 19, 2023, begin payment of grants to beneficiaries of Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP).
LEAP is a social cash transfer program for Ghana’s poorest households with the aim of alleviating poverty by fostering human capital development and smoothing consumption.
A statement released by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection indicated that government has released funds for disbursement to commence.
“Government of Ghana has released GH₵109, 031, 160.00 for the payment of cash grant to about 350,000 households for the 83rd and 84th cycles,” the Gender Ministry said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the statement added that beneficiaries will now receive an improved stipend, as a hundred percent increment has been instituted.
“Given the one hundred percent (100%) increase in the bi-monthly cash grant, one eligible number household will now receive GH₵ 128 instead of GH₵ 64.00. Two eligible member households will now receive GH₵ 152 instead of GH₵ 76.00. Then three eligible member households will now receive GH₵ 176 instead of GH₵ 88.00. Finally, a household with four more eligible members will now receive GH₵ 212.00 instead of GH₵ 106.00.
