Some staff of the Drivers and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) are expected to travel overseas in the coming months to facilitate the registration and renewal of licenses of Ghanaian drivers in the diaspora.

DVLA Chief Executive, Julius Neequaye Kotey, disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has approved processes for the selected staff to be stationed in five countries in both Europe and America to offer the services.

Speaking at the commissioning of a new DVLA office at Bantama in Kumasi, he said the staff will be travelling to the United States of America, Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Germany.

He says the staff will be stationed in the listed countries to provide relevant drivers and vehicle licensing services to persons who would not necessarily need to return home to register and renew their licenses.

“Some of you, the DVLA staff, you are travelling overseas to go and provide services in five countries outside. We have gotten approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for them to travel and do this for Ghanaians staying abroad. They don’t need to come down to renew their one-year license which has expired. We will provide all licensing services for them,” he noted.

Mr. Kotey further admonished his staff not to despair when transferred to other offices and centres across the country.

He explained that such work transfers are not intended to frustrate the staff but rather improve quality service delivery in certain communities where their skills are urgently needed.

“Transfer is not punishment. It is just to tell you that your services are need somewhere else and we need you to be there for efficiency and effective running of that office. Surely, more transfers will be coming on board. Stay by your table. When you get it, you look at the date, you pack your things and you go,” he said.
