The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has reiterated the government’s dedication to closing the gender inequality gap in Ghana.
She emphasized that President John Mahama remains committed to advancing gender equity during his tenure.
Speaking at the 2025 International Women’s Day symposium organized by Amnesty International Ghana, Dr. Lartey highlighted that President Mahama’s nomination of Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate in two consecutive elections and her eventual ascension as Ghana’s Vice President demonstrates his commitment to gender inclusivity in governance.
She further pointed out that in his 2024 manifesto, President Mahama pledged to implement the Affirmative Action Law, which mandates a minimum 30% quota for women in all political appointments.
According to Dr. Lartey, this policy will be instrumental in ensuring that women have equal opportunities to contribute to national development.
The Krowor legislator also stressed that gender equality is not merely an aspiration but a fundamental pillar of a just and progressive society.
She called for collective efforts to ensure the full realization of women’s rights, empowerment, and equal participation in leadership.
