The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Sam Nartey George, has revealed the formation of a joint committee with MultiChoice Ghana to determine a reduction in DStv subscription fees.

The development comes after weeks of standoff between the ministry and the pay-TV operator, following regulators’ demand for a 30% cut in subscription costs.

Earlier this month, the Ministry imposed a statutory fine of GH¢10,000 per day on MultiChoice for failing to submit required pricing data under the Electronic Communications Act (ECA) and warned that the company risked licence suspension if prices were not reduced by September 6, 2025.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Friday, September 5, 2025, Mr. George confirmed that the committee—which includes the ministry, the National Communications Authority (NCA), MultiChoice Ghana, and MultiChoice Africa—was formed at the company’s request.

“Let us be clear—they have finally accepted that there will be a reduction, and they want us to discuss the level of reduction,” the minister said. He added that the government had rejected MultiChoice’s request for 30 days to deliberate, noting, “Fourteen days is enough, inclusive of weekends, for us to reach this decision.”

The committee, chaired by the minister, is expected to present a price reduction strategy later this month.
