Frustration simmers as residents of NIC-Nsunfa, a suburb in Accra, face relentless power outages without relief in sight.

The Electricity Company of Ghana’s failure to provide a definitive schedule has left citizens grappling with uncertainty, impacting daily life and livelihoods.

Voices of discontent echo through the community, with residents lamenting the detrimental effects on businesses and personal well-being.

Kwame Gyau, a local barber, expresses the exasperation of many whose livelihoods depend on uninterrupted electricity.

“Fueling the generator daily without commensurate returns is disheartening,” he shares, highlighting the economic strain caused by the erratic power supply.

Maa Tee, a cold store operator, underscores the impact on small businesses, emphasizing the need for transparency and practical solutions from the government.

“We need a clear timetable to navigate these challenges,” she asserts, criticizing the lack of decisive action from authorities and government

Even local establishments like Neighbourhood and Bauxite City pubs bear the brunt of the crisis, grappling with soaring operational costs amid dwindling patronage.

According to them, the ECG’s power rationing makes it extremely expensive to run their diesel generators daily.

Mr. Amartey, a pensioner, sheds light on the dire consequences for vulnerable groups, including those with health conditions, exacerbated by prolonged power cuts.

“The situation is even worse when the lights go off in the evening. We sometimes sleep on the veranda outside till the following day. It is a big problem for some of us who are asthmatic to live in a room without air due to the constant electricity power cuts.” Mr. Amartey to myrepubliconline

“The people are not even asking you to fix the problem. They say they understand the issues, so just give them a timetable or schedule so they can plan their lives. And the people are rather branded evil & nation wreckers. Such disrespect. Wow!.” Ablekuma-Circle Commercial driver laments

The sentiment extends beyond NIC-Nsunfa, resonating with Ghanaians nationwide facing similar hardships.

Businesses of all sizes are affected, amplifying economic strain and dampening prospects for growth.

As frustrations mount, calls for decisive government action grow louder. Citizens demand more than empty promises, urging a swift resolution to the power crisis. Without tangible solutions, the threat of widespread protests looms, underscoring the urgency of addressing this pressing issue.
