The Office of the President has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate the recall of all Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration.
This directive is part of a broader effort to ensure the proper use and management of official travel documents, in alignment with national and international standards.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Director of the Ministry, Secretary to the President Dr. Callistus Mahama emphasized the need to safeguard the integrity of Ghana’s diplomatic engagements and prevent the misuse of these documents.
To facilitate the recall process, the Ministry has been instructed to:
- Issue a Public Notice: Notify all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued by the previous administration, requesting them to return the documents to the Ministry for verification and re-issuance where necessary.
- Set a Compliance Deadline: Provide a reasonable timeline for compliance, with January 24, 2025, set as the latest date for returns.
- Conduct Verification: Undertake a thorough review of all returned passports to ensure they meet the current eligibility criteria for issuance.
The government believes that this exercise will significantly contribute to maintaining the credibility and efficiency of the country’s passport system.
Dr. Mahama urged the Ministry to cooperate fully in executing this important task. He also invited stakeholders to reach out to his office for any clarifications or assistance needed during the process.
