The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation has directed all E-commerce and digital companies operating in Ghana to register with the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission (PCSRC) for an e-certificate and AfCFTA number.
This directive by the ministry and the government is a move to help fight the growing number of E-commerce and digital fraud and to support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
According to the ministry, it has been observed that many logistical companies and digital platform operators are flouting the law by facilitating courier services without complying with the country’s licensing regulations.
In a statement, the ministry in August last year, advised various companies employing the services of Bolt, Yango, Glovo, Uber, Tonaton, Jiji and other online services to operate with a valid certificate but the move has become more necessary as there is an increasing focus on cross border e-commerce objectives of AfCFTA and growing use of digital platforms to facilitate internal trade.
