As part of the Government’s commitment to improve settlement resilience to flooding, the Ministry of Works and Housing has programmed to implement a number of drainage projects in Takoradi following the growing incidence of flooding in the community.

Already, the Hydrological Services Department, a Departments under the Ministry of Works and Housing, has inspected a number of flood prone areas in Takoradi and mapped out plans to commence the projects.

Currently, the Ministry has contracted a number of desilting and construction contracts geared towards improving the drainage situation from Essikafo Ambatem to the sea.

Relatedly, excavation works from Kokompe-Tanokrom and Apamdo has been completed whiles work is still ongoing at Komfukum. The Ministry will also work on the Adakope-Markey Circle drains, Aboadze Power Enclave Drainage system, Ketan Chop Bar drain and the Takoradi Airport Stormwater Drainage.

The main Takoradi drainage system stretches from the Takoradi Market Circle, passes through Essikafo Ambatem Number One and Two, on the Old Axim road to Adakope, and enters the Atlantic Ocean.

The projects, when completed will help reduce the frequent floods in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis and protect the lives and properties of the people living in the region.
