The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the government has officially approved the payment of gratuity arrears to retired military personnel under Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129.

Following a series of high-level engagements between the military high command and the ministries of finance and defence, this decision resolves a five-year impasse regarding the gratuity formula that has persisted since 2020.

According to a press release issued on February 25, 2026, by Captain (GN) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the resolution includes a clear two-year phased implementation roadmap.

The payment plan is structured to benefit 238 officers and 2,155 soldiers who retired from November 2020 onwards, with payments to be disbursed in four instalments between February 2026 and December 2027.

The first payment is scheduled for release by the close of business on Friday, February 27, 2026. The military high command noted that this development brings closure to a matter that had remained unresolved for five years.

Moving forward, all future retirements will be processed in full compliance with the CI 129 framework, ensuring that personnel receive their entitlements at the correct rate from the onset.

GAF expressed its appreciation to the government for its support in reaching this resolution, providing much-needed financial relief and clarity for those who have served the nation.
