No fewer than 350 modern Health Posts are set to be rolled out across Ghana, with 150 districts targeted under government’s intensified drive to expand access to primary healthcare.
The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, announced this during an inspection of key project sites, where construction has already begun on the new facilities earmarked for the Free Primary Healthcare initiative.
The Minister for Health, together with the Minister of State in charge of Government communication, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, visited the Mega Warehouse in Tema, where building materials for the facilities are being kept, before touring an active construction site at the Social Welfare area in Madina.
According to him, the new facilities, described as upgraded community health centres, are strategically designed to serve high-density areas such as markets and lorry parks, adding that Each Health Post will be equipped with essential amenities, including solar power, potable water, washrooms, a pharmacy, consulting rooms, waiting areas, delivery rooms and observation spaces.
Hon. Akandoh assured that strict health standards will be maintained, noting that all facilities will be staffed by qualified professionals and supplied with approved, high-quality medical essentials.
The Free Primary Healthcare Initiative is aimed at shifting the focus of Ghana’s health system towards prevention and early diagnosis.
