GRA begins cashless system on May 1

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will from May 1, 2021 starts operating a cashless system to enhance revenue mobilisation across the country.

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will from May 1, 2021 starts operating a cashless system to enhance revenue mobilisation across the country.

A statement regarding the new system indicates that the new directive is in line with GRA initiative to build a culture that readily adapts to changes in the operating environment and acquires new skills to match the needs of its customers.

“Domestic Tax payment by various methods through Ghana Government and all participating Banks must commence on May 1, 2021.” The statement noted

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will from June 1, 2021 cease accepting personal and corporate cheques for payment of Taxes and Customs Duties.

“Where it becomes necessary for cheques to be issued for payments that is spread over a number of months, such cheques must be supported by a Bank Guarantee.”

The statement also explained that effective July 1. 2021, all payments for Taxes and Duties shall be made directly to GRA Accounts with the various Banks through the various means such as cash, Bank drafts, Bank transfers, ACH, Swift, Cards, Momo and other electronic means.

In view of GRA efforts to enhance revenue mobilization and the drive towards ease of payment for taxpayers through a โ€˜Cashlessโ€™ system of operation, the following milestones have been set,

  1. Domestic Tax payment by various methods through Ghana Government and all participating Banks must commence on May 1, 2021.
  2. GRA to cease accepting personal and corporate cheques for payment of Taxes and Customs Duties, effective June 1, 2021

Existing cheques that have already been received for the payment of Duties and Taxes shall continue to be presented to the Banks. No new cheques must be received after June 1, 2021

Where it becomes necessary for cheques to be issued for payments that is spread over a number of months, such cheques must be supported by a Bank Guarantee.

  1. Effective July 1. 2021, all payments for Taxes and Duties shall be made directly to GRA Accounts with the various Banks through the various means such as cash, Bank drafts, Bank transfers, ACH, Swift, Cards, Momo and other electronic means.

GRA offices shall not receive any payments
