The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has intercepted 10 trucks loaded with 540,000 litres of diesel that attempted to evade taxes estimated at GH¢2.3 million on October 8, 2025.

At a press conference addressed by the Commissioner General, Anthony Sarpong at the GRA head office, he indicated that the trucks, which were designated to deliver the petroleum products at the port illegally diverted the products and disengaged their tracking devices and exited the port around 3a.m.

A joint operation by Customs and the National Security Secretariat led to the interception of the trucks at Kpong in the Eastern Region. The vehicles have since been impounded.

The GRA noted that if the operation had gone undetected, the state would have lost approximately GH¢2.3 million in taxes. The Commissioner cautioned Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to come forward to own the product while investigations commences. The Commissioner General noted that an investigation has been commissioned into the activities of other OMCs suspected to be involved.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to the government’s renewed national agenda to “reset the system,” curb revenue losses, and ensure transparency in petroleum distribution.

“The GRA remains resolute in ensuring full compliance. All depots and OMCs must adhere strictly to the rules to avert any sanctions,” he emphasized.

It further assured the public that the Authority remains alert to protect the economy from tax leakages and safeguard national revenue.
