The former Chief Executive of Ga West Municipal Assembly and chief of Mpehuasem in the Greater Accra Region, Nana Bram Okae II, has commended the Greater Accra Regional Minister Mr. Henry Quartey, for standing on his feet to ensure that Accra becomes one of the cleanest cities in Africa.

However, Nana Bram said the work he is currently embarking on supposed to be done by the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives who will then report to him for inspection.

He said, this is not the work of the regional minister but rather the regional coordinating council whose mandate is to coordinate all the MMDCEs and other coordinating councils in the various assemblies to enforce the laws.

“The regional minister should not lead a sanitation taskforce but when he started you could see the Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) and the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) boss following him sheepishly.

“It is not the duty of the regional minister to say this building is not supposed to be here but rather the various assemblies,” Nana Bram stated.

He said the banning of Aboboya from using the major highways especially the Motorway for instance, those orders should have come from the various assemblies because the speed limit on the Motorway for instance is 100 kilometers per hour and no Aboboya can go that faster but all the assemblies were looking on.

The chief said when you go to a place like Sakumono, Ramsey site, people have built on the water way while the Tema mayor is looking on.

Nana said on both sides of the Motorway, there are settlements springing up but the assemblies responsible are looking on whiles these settlements are put up on daily basis and none of them have raised any protest if the regional minister has not taken action, the settlements would have been still there.

On the issue of the onion sellers, if Mr. Quartey had not stood on his grounds, they would still be at post. The MMDCEs must take cue and initiate the same actions in their various places.

Nana Bram congratulated the first ever appointed female AMA boss adding that the work is tedious and very frustrating but with tenacity of purpose “we think she can be up to the task so we welcome her.”
