The Green Streets Project Committee, led by the Technical Director for Forestry at the Ministry, Mr Joseph Osiakwan on Thursday, 17th November 2022 inspected the progress of work on the maintenance of trees planted.
The first phase of the Green Street Project is geared towards the planting of trees in the medians of roads within capital cities to beautify and improve the aesthetics of these cities.
Having inspected all three sessions of planted trees and maintenance in the medians of roads in Accra from Spanner, Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout, through Okponglo to Legon Overpass and to the UPSA junction, the team noted that 95% of the trees planted survived due to constant irrigation.
Mr Osiakwan indicated that an assessment is being done to replace the trees that were shocked during transplant while naming some of the trees planted as Tabebuia, Mimosop and Tree of Life tree species.
