The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced planned maintenance works on the 330kV Takoradi–Thermal–Anwomaso Transmission Line to facilitate the connection of a newly built power generation plant at Anwomaso to the national grid.

The announcement comes in the wake of a brief power outage that hit parts of Greater Kumasi on Sunday, December 21, 2025, following a minor technical fault at GRIDCo that reduced power supply to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

In a statement released the same day, GRIDCo explained that the ongoing works are being carried out by AKSA Energy as part of efforts to bring its Anwomaso power plant into full operation.

GRIDCo noted that once fully commissioned, the new plant will increase Ghana’s electricity generation capacity and greatly enhance the reliability of power supply to Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

The company further indicated that the commissioning process involves the safe integration of the AKSA Anwomaso Generating Plant into the national power system through the 330kV transmission line. This exercise may result in temporary power interruptions of up to three hours for some customers to enable the secure connection of the new substation.

GRIDCo assured customers that electricity supply to all affected areas would be fully restored by 11:00 p.m. the same day and apologised for any inconvenience caused, stressing that the exercise is critical to strengthening power stability in Kumasi and adjoining areas.
