The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) has donated relief items worth millions of Ghana Cedis to flood victims in Oti Region.
This was after management assessed the impact of the Akosombo Dam spillage in the area to support the people who were equally affected.
The impact assessment was a joint collaboration between the company and Volta River Authority (VRA).
Among the items donated to support the Akosombo Dam spillage victims in Oti Region are rice 25kg (bag of 5) 10 pieces, tomantos puree 210g (box of 24)- 150 pieces, oil 1Ltr (box of 12)- 110 pieces, mackerel 425g (box of 24)- 45 pieces, sardine 125g (box of 50)- 45 pieces sachet water 500ml – 500 pieces and carbolic soap (box of 72)- 60 pieces.
The rest are washing soap (box of 36)- 40 pieces, Dettol Antiseptic 500ml (box of 24)- 10 pieces, T roll (bag of 32*2)- 120 pieces, mosquito nets – 300 pieces.and sanitary pads (box of 24)
170 pieces.
Interacting with the the media after the donation, the Acting Director, Office of the Chief Executive at GRIDCO, Mr. Samuel Kow Acquah said, because electricity is being used to touch lives, it is therefore necessary to take care about happenings in other areas in the country.
He indicated that as part of GRIDCO cooperate social responsibility, it is is prudent to support a national course to alleviate the plight of those in difficulties.
Receiving the items on behalf of the government, the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, thanked the Management of GRIDCO for their support and assured that, the items would be distributed to only the affected people.
“As a result of the devastated nature of the Akosombo Dam spillage, 6 Regions were affected. However, all eyes were on the Volta, Greater Accra and part of the Eastern Region.
Meanwhile, those at the upstream of the Akosombo Dam, were also affected a lot hence, GRIDCO’s decision to go to the aid of the affected people in the Oti Region,”he stated.
GRIDCO management team present during the presentation was made up of, Director HR & General Services, Mrs. Florence Adjei, Director, Office of Chief Executive, Samuel Kwo Acquah Jnr. and GRIDCO Corporate Communications team.
